Lightship 2000 in Cardiff Bay, is a major tourist attraction with visitors enjoying free admission to explore the ship eg climbing the light tower, seeing the cabins and engine room, and taking refreshments in the lounge or on the heli-deck.

The vessel (LV14) was once stationed off Rhossilli on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales. The beam from the light tower could be seen from 25 miles away and warned ships of the Helwick Swatch, a treacherous sand bank. Weighing 550 tons with an overall length of 137 feet, the Helwick was built to withstand all the might of the sea. It took eleven people to crew the vessel with seven on board at any one time. In 1975 a landing platform was added so that crews could be transferred by helicopter. The Lightship has no propulsion of its own because most of its life was at anchor.

The ship has been converted by volunteers to a floating Christian Centre, an ecumenical venture in which Churches in Wales are working together .The chapel is open daily from 10am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 2-5pm on Sundays and is used for worship and quiet meditation. On the second Wednesday of each month Holy Communion is celebrated with a service in Welsh at 12 noon, followed by a service in English at 1.15pm.
