With the weather that we have been experiencing in South Wales being somewhat soggy one can be forgiven for having modest expectations for a winter weekend in the Brecon Beacons. The weather certainly delivered on all expectations. When it wasn't tipping it down there was a constant, blustery drizzle. Definitely a weekend for staying in a warm, comfortable environment to read the paper.
This is precisely what Ynysmarchog Farm Bunkhouse supplied. The kitchen/living room is very well equipped for lazy afternoon's in comfort. Particularly so because of the fine job they have done in renovating the farm buildings which form the accomodation. There are exposed beams and rafters placed on attractively re-pointed masonry. The extent of the renovation isn't just superficial. The bunkhouse is equipped with underfloor heating throughout, though I do wish we'd found the thermostat sooner, it was at times too warm.
The quality of the renovation was also evident in the washing facilities. The showers, so often the disappointment in bunkhouses were hot, powerful and reliable. A pleasure to use.
So too were the catering facilities. The kitchen is well equipped, clean and well laid out.
Pat and Richard who own the place have done a great job and are friendly and helpful. Other bunkhouse owners, take note. This place is how all bunkhouses should be.

What a fantastic, friendly restaurant!
It is often the case that in Indian restaurants it feels like your part of a production line during service and once you've eaten they can't wait to get rid of you. This is usually accompanied by only satisfactory food.
This is nothing at all like the Vegetarian Food Studio. Jim is a friendly and attentive host and always makes sure that all the diners are happy. The other staff were efficient and also friendly.
We had a mixed platter with popadums to start (recommended by Jim himself and is suitable for about 4 people), which allowed us to sample a wide variety of starters on the menu. Highly recommended. Everyone was also very happy with the mains ordered. I had a Channa Masala - a chickpea based dish - with jeera rice. Very Tasty!
I have also had some very tasty take-away from here, much better than any I've had elsewhere.
